Lemons the size of my head! Amalfi Coast Tour
We woke up early and took a taxi at 730am to go to meeting point for our wonderful Amalfi Coast bus tour. Our host Gabriel was hilarious and so full of energy (under statement). He kept saying how he was a celebrity and was the best and then after doing something cool (like getting your driver (bruno) to stop at an overlook) he would get us to say "we love you gabriel". We even sang karaoke at one point. He truly was a fun tour guide and made the trip even better. We drove by Vesuvius and Pompeii from afar. The Napoli Beaches had black-ish sands and we drove thru the longest tunnels I've ever driven thru (at this point). Our first stop was the city of Sorrento. They are known for their lemons on the Amalfi Coast and sorrento had lemons bigger than my hand!! Gabriel brought us to a little shop that sold food items and we got to try all kinds of stuff for free (lemoncello, melencello, cookies, Pistachio spread, etc) and then we were let loose to explore on our own. We went to an overlook and got to see the coast line. It reminded me of La Jolla in California but more packed with houses and trees. The sands were black so slightly different but closest I could compare it to. The boys got a coffee and I got a lemoncello Gelato. Then we had to haul back to the meeting point. Unfortunately we didn't have enough time to explore in any of the 3 towns BUT they were all very cool to see and I would definitely go back for a longer view. However, I definitely recommend a tour because having to drive thru those cities with both the traffic AND the very tight spaces....it would have been horrible on our own! Our next stop was Positano where the houses are all kinds of colors. It was really cool to see the variety. Our wonderful amazing tour guide got us to stop at a great overlook of the city then we continued on to the Amalfi Coast. The roads are very very narrow and there were LOTS of people here. I can't even imagine in the busy season how people could walk down those streets since we were already close as it was. We stopped by the "Delicatessan" (Gabriel suggestion) for a Caprese sandwich then continued our trek downhill to the beach. It wasn't really worth the effort because the view of the houses wasn't good BUT it was cool to see the beach and how different it is. We hiked back uphill towards the bus and stopped periodically at the shops for souvenirs. Before reaching the bus we stopped at Bar Elfi (or something similar) for a coffee to go then got back on the bus. There was one more stop for a gorgeous overlook of the city then back to our original meeting point. Everyone was VERY tired and the ride back to that point was very quiet in the bus. Even Gabriel. Our group stopped for dinner in Naples, where I got fried eggplant dish. After dinner we got our own taxi and went back to our house to once again crash because we had another early morning and full day!
